The beast is dead.
With a new election looming, and with Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin’s words infecting the campaign, we made sure to resurrect these classic playing cards. Below is the original message, from the creator of this commemorative deck:
After eight cruel years, we are free at last from the embarrassing carnival that was The Bush Administration. The collection of street-level crooks that populated the White House during that time is as recognizable as Dillinger, Nixon or even Al Capone. Many would rather forget. In fact, some, after examining this fine deck of cards, have actually averted their eyes at the vision of Dick Cheney, scowling from the Jack with blood on his spectacles. This is a genuine reaction. It’s the kind of reflex we see in returning veterans from Iraq. Those brave men and women who did their duty at the whim of Cheney, a man who wriggled out of serving in Vietnam while at the same time supporting that war. These are the hollow hawks. Cowering rats that send others to die. Others have looked at Karl Rove, grinning from the King, or Ann Coulter from the Eight and remarked instantly how deeply their outrage runs.
These were mean years.
“Forget them all,” some say. “I don’t want to look at them again.” And then they find the Ace of Spades: Sarah Palin, bubbles popping from her lips, or the Nine card: Bobby Jindal, and a small but bright light flickers to life. “Indeed,” they say. “This could be our future, if we fail to remember the past.”
That is why this deck of cards is a crucial addition to our American homes. The deck is a commemoration of the death of the beast, but it is also a warning:
Never forget the hand we were dealt.
It is your duty to make them remember as well—Those good-hearted Republicans who wish the Bush years never happened, and are trying desperately to redefine their party.
Buy them a deck, too. Make them play a hand with yours. Never forget.
